Fire Weather Watch in Effect for Larimer County Through Tonight
The National Weather Service has issued a fire weather watch for Larimer County that lasts through 8 p.m. today. The NWS has strongly discouraged any outdoor burning in the wake of "critical" weather conditions that could lead to rapid fire growth and spread.
Early Sunday morning the agency issued a red flag fire weather warning for northeastern Colorado, including Larimer County. A red flag warning indicates high wind speeds, hot temperatures and low relative humidity, that could contribute to what the agency calls "extreme fire behavior."
The warning includes:
- Larimer County between 6,000 and 9,000 feet
- Boulder County between 6,000 and 9,000 feet
- Jefferson County above 6,000 feet
- West Douglas county above 6,000 feet
- Gilpin County below 9,000 feet
- Clear Creek County below 9,000 feet
- Northeast Park County below 9,000 feet
The Beaver Creek Fire has burned 17,000 acres near the Colorado Wyoming Border. The Cold Springs Fire has burned more than 600 acres in Boulder County and has forced evacuations. The Hayden Pass Fire in Coaldale is now at 5,000 acres.
