One of those things we must give up this year is fireworks in a Northern Colorado town. One of the most picturesque places to witness fireworks in Northern Colorado has to be Estes Park.

Estes Park Postpones Fourth of July Fireworks

However, the town will not be taking part in the Independence Day fireworks display this year. According to Estes Park News, Inc., increasing wildfire risks have put the town in a tough spot when it comes to fireworks.

The decision to postpone the Fourth of July fireworks show comes after consultation with the Estes Valley Fire Protection District. Observations of significant changes in wildland fire risks over the weekend, along with an unfavorable weather forecast for the remainder of the week, have resulted in the cancellation of the fireworks display over Lake Estes.

Wildfire Risk Forces Change to Lake Estes Fireworks

Estes Park is in a high-risk wildfire landscape, and the town's current top priority is fire safety. The Estes Valley Fire Protection District is urging residents to contact 911 immediately if anyone spots a spark, smoke, or an unattended fire, as fast reporting could save homes and lives.

Stage Two Fire Restrictions are currently in place for Estes Park, and these actions are currently banned for the safety and security of the town and its residents:

  • Charcoal and wood grills
  • Campfires
  • Other open flames
  • Smoking except inside an enclosed vehicle or building - No discarding cigarettes outdoors.

Vehicles should not be parked on grass or vegetation, as a hot exhaust system can ignite dry vegetation in a matter of seconds. More information on the fire restrictions in Estes Park can be found at estesvalleyfire.org.
