I am a huge Elvis freak and have seen all of his movies and heard about everything he has ever recorded. I have also listened to every interview or sound clip I could find. To this day, he is still the king to me.

On this date in back in 56 Elvis made his only appearance at the Grand Ole Opry. He sang the Bill Monroe classic "Blue Moon Of Kentucky". It did not go well and he was told not to quit his day job. Well the folks at the Opry we not ready for what the rest of the world was craving. Good thing he didn't listen to them.

I was looking around at old clips when I came across this interview with his parents that I had never seen before. They talk about his stardom and what their favorites were.

Here is Elvis singing that Bill Monroe classic that did not impress the folks at the Opry.
