It is not at all uncommon to see elk on the Front Range of Colorado. A couple of years ago, I saw a massive bull elk just chilling on the southeast corner of U.S. 287 and Highway 402 in Loveland. He was just standing there, acting like he was waiting for the crosswalk to change to cross the street.

The summer months can usually bring down elk from the mountains into towns like Morrison, Golden, and Loveland. They are not all that common to see in a city such as Lakewood, however.

That still does not stop them. According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, two young bull elk made their way into Lakewood, and by the captions on X, we assume the duo were in close proximity to the restaurant, Casa Bonita.

The X post captioned from Colorado Parks and Wildlife Northeast Division, stating that the pair has been hanging out in Lakewood all week. Wildlife officers darted the pair of elk on Wednesday, with the help and coordination of the Lakewood Police Department.

Catching up with the two bull elk on a golf course, they waited until the time was right and the temperatures cooled down before darting the pair, as the heat can put stress on the young, but large animals.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers relocated the two elk near Evergreen back into the mountains where they were at home. See the posts detailing the capture and release of the two bull elk below.
