When is Easter This Year in Colorado?
For employees, now is the toughest part of the calendar as it is currently the longest time of the year without a major holiday. Yes, some holidays take place, but sadly, none of them lead to having a day off from work. St. Patrick's Day has come and gone, and now many are looking towards the next day to celebrate, even if they don't get a holiday weekend out of it. The next major holiday on the calendar is Easter, but when does it take place this year in Colorado?
When is Easter in Colorado?
You are forgiven if you aren't aware when Easter takes place this year. Unlike Christmas, the Fourth of July, or New Year's Day, Easter does not fall on the same date each year. It always takes place on a Sunday, but the dates can change, and sometimes it can even change months. Easter typically takes place in late March or early April, and it is fast approaching in Colorado. Easter will be on Sunday, April 5, this year, meaning you still have plenty of time to do Easter shopping, make that call to the Easter Bunny, or go get some fabulous pictures of your children with the Easter Bunny as well.

Why does Easter change dates each year, while others stay the same? Easter is not randomly chosen, despite what some may think. The holiday is actually based on the lunar calendar. That's right, the moon dictates when Easter is celebrated each year. The holiday falls on the first Sunday after the Paschal Full Moon. Because of the lunar cycle, Easter can fall anywhere from March 22 to April 25, which is why it can be late March or early to mid-April most years. For those curious, over the last 500 years, the two dates that Easter has fallen on the most are March 31 and April 16.
