Durango is Paying Artists for Public Art Masterpieces
For many people after this pandemic having a chance to make some extra money sounds tremendous. But for artists in Colorado getting paid to do what you love would be a dream come true. And great news for those artists as we are finding out that The Durango Art Brigade is offering to pay artists for their time while making the city more beautiful for everyone to enjoy.
After a meeting, the Art Brigade has picked 18 different areas or projects that need work or that could be perfect for a temporary project. The hope is for these projects to encourage more visitors to visit and spend a few dollars while checking out the art projects. It’s a really clever idea and should also help build even more pride within the citizens of Durango.
What Is The Durango Art Brigade?
While the organization is still very new (just created last year) it began as a public art initiative in response to the pandemic. It’s a collaborative effort between the Durango Creative Economy Commission, Durango Creative District, Dumpster Beautification Project, Local First, and the Durango Business Improvement District. So, lots of people all working hard to keep Durango looking fantastic.
What is the Deadline to Apply for Funding to Complete Durango Art Projects?
The deadline to apply is this coming Friday, April 30th at 5:00 p.m. The different artist stipends, as well as material reimbursement, will depend on project types. The stipends will be from $50 to $500 and material costs can be reimbursed up to $400.
It’s going to be amazing to see the different artwork that gets created and shown off for everyone to enjoy.
