This Colorado County Had the Largest Wind Gust This Week
It has been a windy week across Colorado. Last night, my dog whined and acted strangely in the living room. Since she is a puppy, I figured she had to go for a quick potty break.
I was surprised when I opened the back door to let her out in the backyard and the wind slammed by the backdoor wide open. She was frantic because of the high wind and I quickly realized that was why she was crying in the middle of the night.
The wind was incredibly intense at my home in north Fort Collins. Parts of my neighbor's chicken coop came off and was in my backyard when I woke up this morning.
Even though I felt like the wind was extremely intense, it does not hold a candle compared to one area in Colorado.
Colorado County With Highest Wind Gust
Larimer County, which is where I live, had an area where the wind gusts reached up to 83 miles per hour.
According to data from NWS, Boulder County by far had the strongest wind gusts. One area of Boulder County exceeded wind gusts up to 102 miles per hour. That is equivalent to a Category 2 hurricane.

Will There Be More Wind in Colorado?
It looks like the period of severe wind is over in Colorado. However, the wind is bringing unexpectedly warm weather for this time of the year.
