Police and the parents of Erik Chesher believe the death of a young Johnstown couple who were found in their home Feb. 17 was the result of Erik accidentally shooting his wife, Holly, and then taking his own life.

Sam Chesher told the Johnstown Breeze newspaper, “Our son was an avid hunter and reloader. No one will likely ever know exactly, but what we believe is that somehow a gun discharged, the shot fatally struck Holly, and very quickly Erik chose that he couldn’t live with himself and took his life.”

Johnstown police found 22-year-old Erik Chesher and his 25-year-old wife, Holly Chesher both dead from gunshot wounds at their home in the 600 block of Torrey Pines Lane shortly after 8 a.m. Feb. 17. They were found in an area of the basement of the home that Erik used as a workshop for his ammunition reloading.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire community.
