Dan + Shay’s ‘Tequila’ at 2019 Grammy Awards Is Good to the Last Drop
Dan + Shay had quite the night at the 2019 Grammy Awards on Sunday, Feb. 10, including a performance of their smash hit "Tequila" in a unique style.
The duo only used guitar and piano — paired with their vocals, an instrument in the truest form — for the one-of-a-kind rendition. Shay Mooney and Dan Smyers were set up on one of the B-stages at the Los Angeles Staples Center, with a light backdrop.
Mooney was able to hit some incredibly high runs that he improvised — runs that are not in the recorded version of "Tequila". He ended the song on a note that seemed to last forever, to a standing ovation from the crowd.
The duo thanked the academy for their first-ever Grammy performance and nominations and went on to present the Best Rap Album nomination, which went to "God's Plan" by Drake.
Dan and Shay won their first Grammy during the pre-show telecast for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for "Tequila."
