CSU Students Planning Walkout to Support Florida Shooting Victims
Last month’s mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, has prompted student walkouts and demonstrations across the country, including one by hundreds of Poudre School District students who gathered in Old Town Square a few weeks ago. A national walkout was held last week with an estimated 185,0000 college, high school, and middle school students participating. Also, another nationwide school walkout is scheduled for April 20, the 19th anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting.
Now the National Residence Hall Honorary association is organizing a short walkout at Colorado State University today (Friday, March 23) at 10 a.m. in solidarity with the Parkland victims. According to a CSU staff memo, the group is planning a 17-minute moment of silence on the Lory Student Center Plaza to honor the 17 victims of the shooting.
The students have stated that their goal is to have a peaceful assembly and not to disrupt classes or campus activities.
