CSU Rams Receive High Scores for Academics
Once again, the CSU Rams have proven themselves to be remarkable achievers both on and off the field in the NCAA’s most recent Academic Progress Rate (APR) report.
According to a press release from Colorado State Athletics, the NCAA has released their latest APR report for last year, one in which the Rams achieved the fourth-highest program score in history.
The APR report tracks a student-athlete’s academic success alongside their physical prowess, and requires a minimum score of 930 points out of 1,000 for any particular sports team. Every student on the team earns 1 point for remaining eligible for their school’s sports program and another for staying in school or graduating, allowing each team to earn points together. These scores, once tallied up, lead to recognition for programs whose students have performed particularly well, but can also lead to sanctions from the NCAA if a team has done poorly.
Luckily, the Rams don’t have anything to worry about in that department. For the academic year of 2018-2019, CSU’s average APR was 986, putting the school’s average above 985 for the fourth year in a row. As well as this, all of CSU’s sports programs achieved at least 21 points over the minimum requirement, and had eight teams that earned scores of 990 or better, giving CSU the second-best scores among all the Mountain West schools for the period.
In particular, four of CSU’s programs earned 1,000 points among its members, granting them a perfect score: Women’s basketball, women’s cross country, men’s golf and women’s golf.
Here are CSU’s APR scores by sport:
Men’s Basketball – 951
Women’s Basketball – 1,000
Men’s Cross Country – 977
Women’s Cross country – 1,000
Football - 954
Men’s Golf – 1,000
Women’s Golf – 1,000
Women’s Soccer – 987
Softball – 982
Women’s Swimming and Diving – 998
Women’s Tennis – 992
Men’s Track – 976
Women’s Track – 996
Women’s Volleyball - 990
So, why choose between brains and brawn when you can have both? Well done, sportsmen and women of CSU, you’ve done us all proud.
