With bicycles being one of the most common modes of transportation for Fort Collins residents, it's important that those choosing to ride on two wheels are always kept up to speed on the latest safety practices and rules when it comes to biking within the town. That is why CSU and the City of Fort Collins have teamed up together to host Bike Safety Week, happening September 18-24, 2016. During this time, the City and CSU will be working to educate both bicyclists and drivers about important pedaling practices, as well as how to share the road with each other. This includes how to best avoid one of the most common bicycle/motor vehicle crashes, which is often the result of wrong-way riding.

Throughout the week, FC Bikes’ Bicycle Ambassadors and the City of Fort Collins’ Police Services will be set up at various locations in town to provide additional education, tips, and resources to those who stop by. Find them at:

  • Sept. 18 – at Open Streets on Linden Street near Buckingham
  • Sept. 21 - Mason Street (late morning) and Springfield Drive (evening)
  • Sept. 22 – Springfield Drive
  • Sept. 23 – Mason Street
  • Sept. 23 – Friday Foliage Ride

During Bike Safety Week, CSU will be offering two Bike to Breakfast stations, that will be available to community members from 7:30-9:30 a.m on September 15 at Plum Street and Meridian Avenue, and from 7:30-9:30 a.m. on September 22 at South Drive and Meridian Avenue. Besides picking up a free breakfast on the way to work or school, cyclists will be informed on important infrastructure and safety issues. The Bicycle Ambassador program is also offering a two-part Smart Cycling class on September 22 and 24, which is completely free to the public; registration is available at fcgov.com/bikeautumn.
