New Colorado Law Cracks Down on Ticket Fees, Refunds, and Scams in Live Events
The concert and live event experience is going to be a lot different in Colorado. No, we are not talking about your favorite artist coming to town or the brand-new amphitheater coming to Colorado Springs.
We are talking about the process of buying tickets. Colorado lawmakers have listened to questions, comments, and concerns about buying tickets to live events and they have created a new bill that will protect Colorado consumers.
About The New Colorado Bill
HB24-1378, also known as Consumer Protection in Event Sales, officially became law in Colorado on August 7. The bill was approved on June 5.
This new law mandates a guaranteed refund if a concert or live event is canceled for any reason. Before this bill was enacted, concertgoers and sports fans were not assured of a refund if an event was canceled.
Prices Will Now Be Transparent in Colorado
Have you ever bought a ticket for a live event and been shocked by the final price? You're not alone. Many of us have had this experience in Colorado.
Concert and live event tickets often come with numerous added fees. With this new bill, the total cost, including all fees, must be made clear upfront.
Cracking Down on Colorado Scalpers
KDVR reports that the new bill will limit the number of tickets scalpers can buy. Tickets are often purchased by automated software that buys large quantities, which are then resold at higher prices on other sites for profit.
This bill officially makes this scalping practice illegal.
