Teachers are Begging Parents to STOP Doing These Things

I, for one, think teachers are angels from above. That's why, if I am ever doing something to make a teacher's life hard, I want to know. Full stop.

Just in time for the start of a new school year, let's look at the things teachers thoroughly dislike when parents do them.

To be fair, I am not a perfect parent, and I'm sure I've annoyed a teacher or two in my day. That's why I want to get this out there: sometimes we suck and don't even know it.

Don't do these things

• Doing your kids' homework for them. Even if it's late at night and there have been many tears, your kid will never learn about parallelograms if you do the work for them, and that's no good because we use parallelograms every single day as adults.
• Please, please, please don't send your kid to school sick. No one has time for the stomach flu, especially teachers. Also, definitely don't ignore the calls from the nurse's office. Don't you do it.
• Don't expect an immediate response after emailing the teacher. Teachers have four hundred and five other kids and parents to deal with. The teachers are doing the best they can.
• Coming from someone raised by parents who always told us, "If you get in trouble at school, it will be ten times worse at home," this next one is an anomaly to me. Parents believing their kid over the teacher can make things really hard. Of course, each case is different, but keep an open mind because your little Johnny isn't perfect. Don't worry, mine isn't either.
• If you have an issue, try to talk to the teacher before reaching out to the principal. If you don't have an issue with the teacher, then work with the teacher.

Again, I'm more than sure I've annoyed my kids' teachers at least once, if not a hundred times. Another reason to give our fabulous Northern Colorado teachers the tools they need for a successful school year.
