You Won’t Believe Which Colorado Town Leads in Burglaries

When it comes to crime in Colorado, many people would think that cities like Denver, Aurora, Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Fort Collins, and other big cities would be the areas that are hardest hit.

SafeWise recently released a list of the most burglarized cities in each state. Colorado's city that made the list may surprise you, as it is one you wouldn't even consider. According to the report, burglary was the third-most common property crime in 2023, which accounted for 13 percent of all reported incidents. 53 percent of burglaries nationwide were targeting residential properties.

These burglaries in 2024 averaged about $6,000 per incident, which is about five times more than the amount victims of burglaries lost in 2000.

Black Hawk Named Colorado’s Most Burglarized City

Colorado's town that has the most burglaries per 100 residents was also the smallest town on the entire list. With a population of only 127 residents, Black Hawk experienced three reported burglaries in 2023.

While that number may seem very low, the rate is 2.36 per 100 residents, making Black Hawk, Colorado, the most burglarized city in the entire state. The city that experienced the most burglaries overall by the number is Las Vegas, Nevada, with a total of 8,854 reported incidents in 2023. However, the burglary rate was only 0.53 because Sin City has 1.6 million residents.
