Colorado has become the fifth state in the nation to ban natural hair discrimination.

Governor Jared Polis signed House Bill 1048 (also known as the CROWN Act) into law on Friday, March 6 at a performing arts school based in African-American traditions according to The Denver Channel.

California was the first state to ban discrimination for natural hair with the CROWN act. CROWN stands for "Create a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair." The CROWN foundation was co-founded by Dove soap and other organizations committed to ending discrimination.

The bill applies to discrimination in public education, employment practices, housing, public accommodations and advertising.
