CDC Order Will Likely Halt Colorado Evictions for Rest of Year

Evictions in Colorado will likely be halted through the end of this year due to a new order from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

According to Denver7, the order, which the CDC introduced on Tuesday (September 1), would ban evictions for tenants earning $99,000 or less a year, starting on Friday (September 4) through December 31.

The order, which has the support of President Trump, is designed to prevent COVID-19 from spreading, the CDC said.

"President Trump is committed to helping hardworking Americans stay in their homes and combating the spread of the coronavirus," a statement from the White House read. "Today's announcement from his Administration means that people struggling to pay rent due to coronavirus will not have to worry about being evicted, and risk further spreading of or exposure to the disease due to economic hardship."

Denver7 reports that Colorado officials are blindsided by the order, and are unable to confirm if it will actually take effect in the state.

Governor Jared Polis previously banned evictions towards the start of the pandemic, but they have since resumed.
