Iconic Car Audio Shop Files for Bankruptcy After Nearly 40 Years
My love for cars started at an early age. Before I could even ride a bike, I was painting and gluing together model cars in my bedroom. As soon as I was old enough to get my license, I was on the hunt for great deals to make my vehicle I was driving better, louder, and custom.

When it came to the factor of being loud, my preference was always car audio over exhaust. I loved the way that subwoofers felt when the music hit just right, driving at night. Sure, my neighbors probably hated me, but I was a teenager doing teenage things.

As the years went by, the need to buy car audio kind of died down, mostly because I had speakers, stereos, and more stolen out of my vehicle on more than one occasion. No one ever wants that, and when it happens, you tend to start being more cautious with your money.
CarToys Was the Go-To for Car Audio Fans
Arguably, one of the most iconic places to get your car audio was a nationwide retailer that specialized in sound quality and loud subwoofers for your ride. CarToys always used to be my place where I would pick up a head unit, amplifiers, speakers, and more.
Sadly, news broke today that CarToys has filed for bankruptcy after nearly four decades of operations. According to 9 News, the company has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and will either sell off or close its 47 remaining stores, including the Colorado locations.

Six of these stores will be sold, and the remaining three will close permanently. According to a press release from CarToys, Foss Audio, and Tint will purchase six of the ten CarToys locations in Northern Colorado, and Drive-In Autosound will purchase the Colorado Springs North location.
CarToys Gift Card Deadline Announced
Customers who have CarToys gift cards will still be able to use them until October 18, 2025. After this date, CarToys will no longer honor gift cards. More information on the Chapter 11 bankruptcy can be seen at cartoys.com.
