Caps High in the Air: Thompson District Graduation Plans for 2021

One indoor and two outdoor venues will be seeing over 1,000 students getting their diplomas in person on Memorial Day Weekend.

I've been hearing the old Beach Boys tune, 'Graduation Day' in my head for a couple of weeks now, as the Northern Colorado high schools begin sending their Seniors on their way to bright futures.

I walked to get my own diploma in 1985 at Ray Patterson [Field] when I graduated from Loveland High School. It was a great Saturday. It's fun to be in my 50s now talking about youths doing the same walk.

For many years, before the 2020 graduation timeframe, ceremonies have been held at Budweiser Events Center, but with the pandemic, everyone had to adjust. Adjusting to challenges will help you when it comes to adulting, but for graduation, just one last day of being a youth is what it should be about.

2020's graduations for the Thompson School District were held outside at Ray Patterson Stadium, with very limited attendance; only two guest tickets per graduate.

For 2021 graduations, according to the Reporter-Herald, things will be outdoors again for most, but indoors for one of the schools.

Ferguson High will be the only indoor ceremony, begin held Friday afternoon, May 28, at 2 p.m. inside Roberta Price Auditorium located at Thompson Valley High School.
Loveland High will graduate Friday night, May 28, at 6 p.m. outside at Ray Patterson Stadium. *This LHS class will be graduating as simply 'Loveland High School Graduates,' whereas next year, they'll be Loveland High Red Wolves.
Mountain View High will graduate early on Saturday, May 29, at 8 a.m. outside at Ray Patterson Stadium.
Thompson Valley High will get to use their home field for graduation Saturday afternoon at 12 p.m. at Ray Patterson Stadium.
Berthoud High will have their ceremonies on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Max Marr Stadium.

Students can invite up to eight guests this year. During the ceremonies, students will be required to wear masks; guests will not be required to wear them, only recommended.

They will have live streams of each graduation on YouTube, as well.
