Cameron Peak Fire Grows Another 122 Acres, Containment to 17%
The Cameron Peak Fire is growing once again.
The fire was able to grow another 122 acres on Tuesday (Sept. 22) and now sits at 104,652 acres, according to the latest official report. The Cameron Peak Fire is now less than 4,000 acres away from being Colorado's third worst of all time.
Colorado's worst wildfires in history, according to Denver7 data, are:
- 2020 Pine Gulch Fire 139,007
- 2002 Hayman Fire 137,760
- 2013 West Fork Complex Fire 108,045
- 2020 Cameron Peak Fire 104,652 Acres
- 2012 High Park Fire 87,250
Firefighter crews are working day and night on the flames. Nighttime firefighting is allowing the crews to work in cooler temperatures with less wind.
Crews were able to increase containment from 15% to 17% on Wednesday.
Aerial support from helicopters and airplanes are also being used in the fight.
