California Woman Suing Chipotle for More Than $2,000,000,000
That old adage "a picture is worth 1,000 words" comes to mind every time I snap a photograph. A California woman thinks her photograph is worth more than $2 billion dollars and is suing Chipotle.
According to an article on the DenverChannel, Leah Caldwell from Sacramento filed a lawsuit for using her photo in promotional material without her permission. The case names the CEO of Chipotle, Steve Ells and the photographer, Steve Adams as the defendants.
Caldwell says the photographer Steve Adams took her photo at a Denver Chipotle in 2006 without her consent. Upon leaving, the photographer asked her to sign a release form which she refused. In 2014 she saw her photo at Chipotle in Orlando and then again in 2015 at two different Sacramento locations.
The lawsuit states that Chipotle bought the photo and did not take proper precautions to ensure that the photographer received consent to use the photograph.
Leah Caldwell is suing for $2,237,633,000. This amount looks to be figured as the companies profits made by the photo between 2006 - 2015. Additionally, the lawsuit is also looking at the profits from 2016 to be added once the information becomes available.
