The Bucktail Fire began on August 1 in Montrose County. Since the fire began, over 7,000 acres of land have been destroyed, including one home. Since the location was not near any major structures, there were no evacuations.

The cause of the Bucktail Fire is linked to a man attempting to cremate his dog, according to the Associated Press. Authorities were able to determine the cremation as the cause due to finding the remains of the dog and a gravestone that said Rocket Dog, Rest in Peace Buddy".

Nucla officials euthanized the dog after Rocket got into a fight with another dog. The owner of the dog, Brent Scott Garber, is accused of arson and trespassing. According to USA Today, Brent Scott Garber became a suspect after he was seen driving a vehicle away from the fire.

Garber has a hearing scheduled for October 23.
