The Broomfield Police Department (BPD) is looking for a man who allegedly stole around $9,000 worth of jewelry from a local Macy's on Thursday (April 22).

According to FOX31, the incident occurred just before noon in the Flatiron Crossing mall, when the man used an ax to break into a jewelry case.

An anonymous witness told the station that she originally thought the suspect had opened fire, stating: "We didn't know really what it was...I thought it was a gunman. It definitely sounded like gunshots."

Despite employees' attempts to stop the man, he escaped in a dark vehicle with five expensive jewelry items. Thankfully, he did not injure anyone during the theft.
