BIPOC Alliance Brings Larimer County Closer Together
The Black, Indigenous and People of Color of Larimer County (BIPOC Alliance) are out to bring our community closer together.
Within their safe and wholesome space, BIPOC Alliance is bringing fun activities and peer support to its Larimer County members.
This week, "Tuned In to NoCo" got to speak with BIPOC Alliance's Program Director, Jamie Rasmussen, and BIPOC Alliance's Community Engagement Coordinator Mayra Orozco, about what they have in store for Larimer County and we couldn't be more excited.
BIPOC Alliance will be hosting its 2nd Annual Dia De Muertos Celebration October 28th in Old Town square, A Space for Mankind November 2nd, a Liberation Book Circle November 6th, a private viewing of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever November 12th and more!
Rassmussen says these events are not only there to advocate for people of color in our community, but to help them feel a sense of belonging as well.
"We've done a lot of really awesome events to bring our community together and to acknowledge our varying cultural identities and the intersectionality of those...these events are for people of color to feel welcome, loved and like they belong. "
Orozco says, for her, BIPOC Alliance has allowed her to truly experience joy.
"It really is a safe space for people of color to let their guard down and experience joy - especially child-like joy. I feel like a lot of us kind of experience a lot of childhood trauma. So, to really let our little ones experience such joy is so healing and therapeutic. I love BIPOC. I love being a part of this community. I love working with people of color and hearing their needs, wants and hopes and dreams. Especially as we try and pave a healthier and better way for our children."
