An Open Letter To Jerk Pedestrians In Colorado
Let me start off by saying this is beyond just a "Colorado thing" this is a society thing for the most part and quite frankly, I'm sick of it.
In this day and age where so many people are in the "me me me" state of mind and in a time where common sense has seemingly gone out the window, that has seemed to carryover to crosswalk etiquette.
I've also seen people driving in their vehicles who are far from perfect too that don't pay attention or care to in regards to pedestrians and that is 100% unacceptable and drivers need to also follow the rules and yield when they are supposed to.
But back to the pedestrians, I've noticed bad crosswalk etiquette quite often over the past few months getting especially bad in many places but I've noticed it in particular getting especially bad in Downtown Windsor because well, I drive it every single day and on many days, mulitiple times a day.
I get it, pedestrians have the right of way when crossing but that applies when you are in the crosswalk and that is where you are supposed to cross the street.
I have noticed people just darting out in traffic not in a crosswalk and just expecting drivers to slam on their brakes to they can cross the street. It's been happening more often and it's driving me nuts, especially when they give you the look like you're the idiot. Wrong,
Another thing that's been driving me nuts for years and this isn't just a Colorado thing either but this is where I live and it's where I see it every single day and that's the folks who, even though they have the right of way when they're in the crosswalk just stroll out into traffic without even looking to see if cars are coming, without making eye contact with the driver to make sure they see you and just stroll right out in front of you and just slowly shuffle across the street many times with their faces glued to their phone like their the only ones that have places to go and things to do.
So while I'm here in Colorado talking about this, once again it's not just a Colorado thing and proving that point is this guy "Uncle Jon" who lives on the East Coast and is also sick of these people so he gives us all little refreshers on how to properly use a crosswalk because hey, nobody is perfect.

So to recap, when crossing a street make sure you do so in the crosswalk, don't just dart out in front of cars just because you have a crosswalk, be respectful and mindful of people and things that are going on around you and stay the hell off your phone when you're crossing the street.
Thank you.
