Americans Have Spent an Estimated $2.5B on Easter Candy in 2019
I may or may not have contributed to about $1.2 million of this...
Cadbury Creme Eggs, Reese'e Peanut Butter Cup Eggs, and Peeps, oh my! Everywhere you look there's candy and creepy, confectionery eyes looking at you. No, seriously. Those chocolate bunny eye are no joke.
It's Easter (candy) weekend and despite the true meaning of Easter having nothing to do with sugar, we find ourselves elbow deep in candy. So much so that we have spent billions on these holiday-themed treats.
$2.5 billion, to be exact.
That's according to Wallet Hub who recently crunched the numbers like the shells of an Easter egg. Our multi-billion dollar spending is just for 2019 alone. That's a lot of sugar! And a lot of consequential cavities. In fact, the only other holiday that surpasses that kind of spending is Halloween.
Wallet Hub also looked at the amount of money that we spent on other celebratory and festive items.
$3.3 billion on clothing
$5.7 billion on food
$2.9 billion on gifts
My question is what happened to the Easter Bunny? Isn't he supposed to come bearing gifts? Sounds like this little fluff ball isn't holding up his end of the bargain.
