A Rare McDonald’s Mascot is Making an Appearance in Colorado
Since debuting in 1970, people around the nation eagerly await the annual return of the Shamrock Shake on the McDonald's menu. The beloved minty green treat has built up quite a following over the last 55 years - not only because they're delicious, but also for the importance these shakes had in helping to create the first Ronald McDonald House.
Currently, the Ronald McDonald House Charities serves nearly 6 million children and families in more than 63 countries and regions. However, back in 1974, it began as a four-story, seven-bedroom house in Philadelphia, purchased with money raised from McDonald's first Shamrock Shake promotional fundraiser.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the original Shamrock Shake fundraiser and the return of these festive, seasonal treats, a McDonaldland character that hasn't been seen in decades will be making an appearance in Colorado this week.
According to 9News Denver, Grimace's uncle is traveling from his home in Sham Rock, Ireland, to reunite with his nephew in the states.
On Tuesday, February 18, Uncle O'Grimacey will make a special appearance at the McDonald's located at 4780 N. Yampa Street, near Green Valley Ranch Boulevard and Tower Road. From 3 to 5 p.m. the bright green mascot will be meeting with customers in the drive through and inside the restaurant, and of course, serving up plenty of Shamrock Shakes.
This year, 25 cents from every Shamrock Shake sold at participating McDonald's locations nationwide until March 23 will support local Ronald McDonald House Charities families.
Shamrock Shakes will remain on the menu for approximately five weeks, or while supplies last.
