An experimental drug that could fight COVID-19 is coming to Colorado.

The Denver Post reports that the state will receive a drug called Remdesivir. The drug is given through an IV and blocks a key virus enzyme. Colorado got enough doses to treat about 100 patients.

Distribution of the drug will go to eight hospitals, including some run by UCHealth and Banner Health.

Those eligible to receive Remdesivir have low blood oxygen levels or are those in need of a ventilator, according to the Coloradoan.

Remdesivir, created by the pharmaceutical company Gilead Sciences Inc., has committed to supplying 600,000 vials of the drug to U.S. hospitals over the next six weeks.
