When Does School Start in Northern Colorado?

As quickly as summer arrived, it is on the way out. Soon, the school year will be here before you know it.

Many new residents have come to Northern Colorado and will have children starting classes in a new school. There are numerous school districts throughout the area, and many of them start the year on different dates.

School Start Dates By District in Northern Colorado

We have compiled a list of all the back-to-school start days in Northern Colorado.

Poudre School District: Fort Collins

The first day of school for all students will be on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. There is a transition day for all sixth and ninth-grade students on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. See the full schedule at psdschools.org.

Thompson School District: Loveland and Berthoud

The first day of school for all students in the Thompson School District will be on Thursday, August 20, 2026, except kindergarten, sixth-grade, and ninth-grade students. These grades will start on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. The full class calendar for Thompson School District can be viewed at tsd.org.

Weld RE-3J School District: Hudson, Keenesburg, and Lochbuie

The first day of school for all students in grades K-12 starts on Monday, August 10, 2026. The first day of preschool is on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. Information about Weld RE-3J's schedule is available at re3j.com.

Weld RE-4J School District: Windsor and Severance

Windsor and Severance students going into kindergarten, sixth-grade, and ninth-grade will start the school year on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. All other grades will start class the following day on Thursday, August 13, 2026. Weld RE-4J school calendar is available at weldre4.org.

Weld RE-5J School District: Johnstown and Miliken

Orientation for sixth- and ninth-grade students in the Weld RE-5J School District will be on Friday, August 14, 2026. The first day of school for grades 1-12 is Monday, August 17, 2026. Greeley-Evans School District 6

Monday, August 10, 2026, is another early start date in Northern Colorado for grades 1-12. The first day for preschool and kindergarten students is on Thursday, August 13, 2026. The full class schedule for Greeley-Evans School District 6 is available at greeleyschools.org.

Estes Park School District R-3

Estes Park School District R-3 will start the school year over the course of two weeks. The first day of class for sixth and ninth-graders will be on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. The first day for all secondary students is Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
