The 2016 Colorado Farm Show will award twelve graduating high school seniors and two college freshmen students a total of $27,000 in scholarships to help with their higher education goals. Two $4000.00 renewable Colorado Farm Show Rolling Scholarships, six $2000.00 Chuck Urano Memorial Scholarships, two $1500.00 Colorado Farm Show Secondary Scholarships, two $1000.00 Carl Luther Memorial Vo-Tech Scholarships, and two $1000.00 Colorado Farm Show Friend of the Show Scholarships will be awarded on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at a banquet held in the recipients’ honor at the Events Center at Island Grove Regional Park in Greeley.

COLORADO FARM SHOW SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

Tucker Teague

Tucker is a 2016 Rolling Scholarship recipient and a 4.0 student at Wiggins High School. Tucker is 10 year member of the Bijou Go Getters 4-H club, a 4 year member of the Wiggins FFA Chapter, and is the Ranch Manager at his family’s ranching and farming operation in Ft. Morgan, CO. He has shown hogs, lambs, and goats at the County, State, and National levels and is a member of FBLA, Wiggins Football Team, National Honor Society, and the Wiggins Lettermen’s Club. Tucker plans on attending Texas A&M University and majoring in Animal Science.

Brooke Hinojosa

Brooke is from Carr, CO, a 4.03 student at Highland High School in Ault, CO and is a 2016 Rolling Scholarship recipient. She is active in Cross Country, Basketball, Volleyball, and Track. She is also a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, and FBLA. In addition to being a 10 year member of the 4-H program and a 4 year member of FFA, Brooke is the current President of the Colorado Junior Hereford Association and has served as the Colorado Hereford Queen for 3 years. She is also active in the National Junior Hereford Association. Brooke plans on double majoring in Animal Science and Food Science at Oklahoma State University.

Chuck Urano Memorial Scholarship

The Chuck Urano Memorial Scholarship was established in 1992 to honor the late founder of the Colorado Farm Show. It is designed to recognize 4-H and FFA students that have been active in their respective programs, communities, and excel in the classroom.

Dane Corliss

Dane is from Kersey, CO. He attends Platte Valley High School where he maintains a 4.07 GPA while participating in Cross Country, Track and Field, and Knowledge Bowl. Dane has been active in 4-H for 10 years showing market swine, crops, leather craft, and participating in shooting sports at the County, State and National Levels. He is also a 4 year member of the Platte Valley FFA program and is currently serving as the President of his chapter. Dane plans to use the Chuck Urano Scholarship to help fund his Agriculture Mechanical Engineering Degree at Colorado State University.

Jennifer Walsh

Jennifer is a 3.9 GPA student at Meeker High School in Meeker, CO. She is active in Student Council, Volleyball, Basketball, FBLA, and Future Career and Community Leaders of America. Jennifer has shown Beef, Swine, Ceramics, and Scrapbooking in the 4-H program for 9 years. She is also active in the Meeker FFA Chapter. Additionally, Jennifer is a Youth Camp Director, works part time at the Blue Spruce Inn and Meeker Drug Store, and provides childcare for local families. Jennifer is a recipient of a Chuck Urano Scholarship and plans on pursuing a degree in Agribusiness from Oklahoma State University, Iowa State University, or Colorado State University.

Blake Ferris

Blake attends Wiggins High School where he maintains a 4.0 GPA. He is a member of the National Honor Society, History Club, FBLA, Student Council, the International Club, and he plays Football and Baseball. Blake has been a member of the Wiggins FFA Chapter for 4 years and is currently serving as the President of his Chapter and is also the District 14 President. Blake plans on using his Chuck Urano Scholarship funds to attend Kansas State University and major in Agriculture Economics and Agribusiness.

Madison Shults

Madison is a Chuck Urano Scholarship recipient. She attends Meeker High School and carries a 3.96 GPA. She also attends Colorado Northwestern Community College and has completed 47 college credits. During her 9 years in 4-H, Madison has been on the livestock judging team, shown swine, and exhibited beef at the county, state, and national levels. She is also a 4 year member of the Meeker FFA Chapter and is a member of National Honor Society and Varsity Basketball. Madison has worked as a housekeeper for her Church and local families, a cowhand and hay boss for local ranches. Madison plans on attending Texas Tech University and majoring in Animal Science.

Reid Ernst

Reid maintains a 4.05 GPA at Wiggins High School and is active in the History Club, National Honor Society, Student Council, Cross Country, Basketball, and Track & Field. He has been in the Wiggins FFA program for 4 years and is currently serving as Chapter Vice President and District Secretary. Reid has been involved in 4-H for 13 years and has held offices in his club for 8 years. Through 4-H he shows market steers, swine, and woodworking. Reid plans on using his Chuck Urano Scholarship to attend Colorado State University and major in Environmental Engineering and minor in Soil Resources and Conservation.

KateLynn Seelhoff

KateLynn is a Chuck Urano Scholarship winner, lives in Greeley, CO and attends Valley High School where she has a 3.9 GPA and plays soccer, is a member of the National Honor Society, and is a Drum Major in Band. She is a 4 year FFA member and has held the offices of Sentinel and Secretary. KateLynn is also a 9 year member of the 4-H program and has served as Treasurer, Vice President, and President of her club. In addition to her school, FFA, and 4-H activities, KateLynn works part time at Cinemark and Valley FFA Greenhouse. She plans on attending Colorado State University and majoring in Animal Science/Pre-Vet.

Colorado Farm Show Secondary Scholarships

Also new this year is the addition of two $1500.00 Colorado Farm Show Secondary Scholarships. These scholarships are awarded to past winners of a Colorado Farm Show Scholarship who are currently pursuing their secondary education in an Agricultural or Vo-Tech field of study at an accredited College, University or Vo-Tech school.

Shelby Teague

Shelby is a 2016 Secondary Scholarship recipient from Ft. Morgan, CO and is currently attending Kansas State University where she is majoring in Animal Science and Agriculture Communications and has a 3.6 GPA. Shelby is a member of the K-State Block and Bridle Club, the Meat Judging Team, Wool Judging Team, and writes for the K-State Collegian newspaper. Shelby also writes Ag Advocacy blogs for Ranch House Designs, a livestock design firm with over 70,000 followers on Facebook and Twitter, and she works at the K-State Sheep and Meat Goat Unit.

Topanga McBride

Topanga is a 2016 Secondary Scholarship winner, is from Severence, CO and currently at Kansas State University majoring in Agricultural Communications/Journalism and Agriculture Economics with a 3.66 GPA. Topanga is a member of Sigma Alpha, National Agri-Marketing Association, Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow, and Collegiate Farm Bureau. She is also a member of the American Milking Shorthorn Association, the Colorado Holstein Association, and the American Holstein Association. Topanga works part time at Cornerstone Bakery and K-State Athletics.

Carl Luther Vo-Tech Memorial Scholarship

The Carl Luther Vo-Tech Memorial Scholarship was initiated in 2011 to honor the late Carl Luther, a long time exhibitor and supporter of the Colorado Farm Show. This $1000.00 scholarship is awarded to graduating high school seniors pursuing a degree in an Agricultural Vo-Tech related field.

Christopher Weisenhorn

Christopher is from Holly, CO and attends Holly High School where he has a 3.5 GPA. He is a 4 year member of the Holly FFA Chapter and is currently serving as Chapter Treasurer. Christopher is also a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, the Track Team and has played Football for 4 years. In 2014, he was All-Conference Honorable Mention Defensive End. He is a member of the Holly Volunteer Fire Department and holds a Priesthood Office with his Church. Christopher works at Weisenhorn Farms and Warren Schwab Farm Equipment Repair and plans on attending Lincoln Technical Institute in Denver to study Welding with the help of his 2016 Carl Luther Vo-Tech Scholarship.

Trent Leoffler

Trent is a 2016 Carl Luther Vo-Tech Scholarship winner. He has a 3.8 GPA at Arickaree School and is from Flagler, CO. He is a member of FBLA, National Honor Society, Student Council, Drama, Football, Basketball, and Track. Trent is a 4 year member of the Arickaree FFA Chapter and is currently serving as the chapter Vice-President. He has been an active 4-H member for 8 years and has held the offices of treasurer and Vice President. Trent plans on returning to his family’s farming and ranching operation after studying Diesel Mechanics at Northwestern Kansas Technical College.

Colorado Farm Show Friend of the Farm Show Scholarship

The Colorado Farm Show Friend of the Farm Show Scholarship is a $1000.00 scholarship awarded to graduating High School Seniors who have volunteered or have a family member that has volunteered their time to the Colorado Farm Show.

Carissa Weber

Carissa attends Windsor High School and maintains a 3.9 GPA. She is a member of the Windsor High School Swim Team, and plays clarinet and bass clarinet for the Pride of Windsor Marching Band. Carissa has been active in FFA for 4 years and is currently serving as chapter President. She has participated in Prepared Speaking, is a member of the Parliamentary Procedure Team, and the Meat Evaluation Team. Carissa also helped with the Food 4 Ever Agriculture Event that brought Weld-Re4 district 4th graders together to learn about the agriculture around Windsor. She is active in her Church and has been on two mission trips. Carissa is being awarded the Friend of the Farm Show Scholarship not only because of her father’s 33 year commitment to the Colorado Farm Show; but, because of her help at the show. She plans on attending Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, CO and pursuing a degree in Agriculture Education.

Hannah Bott

Hannah Bott has a 4.1 GPA at Eaton High School. In school, she participates in Knowledge Bowl, Swimming, Track & Field, Student Council, and is Section Leader and Drum Major for the Concert and marching Band. She is also a 4 year member of the Eaton FFA Chapter and has served as chapter Secretary and is the current chapter President. Hannah is also a 10 year member of the Wyatt 4-H club and has shown poultry and cake decorating. She also works as a janitor at countryside Large Animal Clinic, is a babysitter, and a horse riding assistant. She plans on pursuing a degree in Bioengineering from Montana State University in Bozeman, MT.
