The turnout today at Island Grove for the Weld County Veterans ceremony was outstanding. The cold weather was non-existent in a room full of warriors.

Colonel Stan Cass has once again outdone himself by putting together a fantastic event to honor all the veterans who have served this great country. The day honored the Colorado Patriot Guard Riders and many others including the oldest veteran in attendance, Edward, who is 97 years young, still lives by himself, cooks for himself and takes orders from no one.

I had the honor of escorting him to lunch at the VFW, and he is a certified badass from World War II. A fighter pilot who flew 89 combat missions; shot down on 27 of them. The best story was when he kicked Frank Sinatra off his plane for being drunk and obnoxious and Edward had enough. He ordered three of the Royal Mounted Police to meet them on the tarmac and escort him off.

What a day though. The Brentwood Middle School band was there to bring down the house on several occasions, and the guest speaker, Major General Michael Edwards, truly spoke from the heart about what family and the military meant to him. He too is a true hero and warrior, and it was an honor to hear him deliver his message to a full house.

While at the event, I also took the opportunity to qualify a veteran to win the turkey car from Ehrlich Nissan. As a thank you for his service, and in honor of Veterans Day, he seemed like a great choice to be one of just 100 people who may win this car on Thanksgiving.

To me, every day is Veterans Day and I want to personally thank them all for all they have sacrifice for my family and I.

SALUTE!
