Violent Storms Roll Through Northern Colorado August 3rd Producing Tornadoes [Pictures]

At approximately 2:30 PM on Saturday, August 3rd the National Weather Service began issuing statements warning Northern Colorado residents that severe storms and tornadoes were on their way. This time the projections were right on.

Over the period of the next few hours following the initial warnings, mother nature took a toll on the areas of Wellington, Fort Collins, Loveland, Greeley, Windsor and all cities in between as the storm moved south down the I-25 corridor. Visibilities were reduced to the point that traffic came to a standstill on interstates and major corridors. A number of roads flooded due to the extremely heavy rain and baseball sized hail. Reports by emergency services also confirmed the touchdown of a tornado near Greeley at highway 34 and 83rd Avenue. While the worst appears to have passed, all of Larimer County remains under a tornado watch until 10 PM Saturday night. A small stream flood advisory is also in effect in northern Larimer County until 4:30 PM. As always listen to us for the latest severe weather updates.

In the aftermath of the storm, we were able to take some photos showing the flooding in the Windsor area that was hard hit and under tornado warning much of the late afternoon. Snow plows were actually out to clear hail that was as deep as a few feet in some places covering the roadway. As you will see, our building received water damage as did many other homes and businesses in the City of Windsor. Water levels were much higher than what these pictures show in the heat of the storm. Ironically the sprinklers at Windsor High School turned on just in time for us to grab some photos once it was safe to go outside.
