Denver Gets a New Airline and a New Nonstop Destination

My wife and I went on vacation to somewhere we had never been before earlier this year. The adventure to somewhere new took us to Eastern Europe and we had a great time. I am like many people and try to avoid doing the whole layover thing as much as possible. This past trip, we had not only one but two layovers at two major international airports.

In just a matter of weeks, if we decide to go back to this country, we won't have to deal with a layover to get there. Denver International Airport announced on Thursday, April 4, that a new airline offering direct flights will be coming to Colorado this summer.

Turkish Airlines is expanding to Denver International Airport

Turkish Airlines will offer nonstop flights from Denver International Airport to Istanbul, Turkey starting this summer. Istanbul is one of the oldest cities in the world and has been an established city since 667 B.C.

Travelers will be able to fly directly to Istanbul to see and experience the Grand Bazaar, Galata Tower, The Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, and so much more. We enjoyed our short trip to Turkey, but the numerous layovers to get there were more than draining. Thankfully, when we go back someday, we can now fly directly through Turkish Airlines.

5 Travel Tips For Istanbul, Turkey

If you want to head to the old city of Istanbul, Turkey, from Denver, be prepared with these tips from our first-hand experience from visiting the city.

• Bring comfortable shoes. You will be doing a lot of walking and there are a lot of hills in Istanbul.
• Utilize the transit system. Istanbul has a great public transit system and we took it every day we were there.
• The currency in Istanbul is the lira. Turkish Lira is the preferred currency in Istanbul. There are exchange kiosks all over the city. However, we found that the best exchange rates when changing out dollars to lira were the currency exchange spots near the Grand Bazaar and Spice Bazaar.
• Be prepared to haggle when shopping. Haggling is part of the culture, so be prepared to haggle when shopping for souvenirs.
• Take the ferry across the Bosphorus Straight. For as little as 50 cents, you can go from the European side of Istanbul to the Asian side of Istanbul in as little as 20 minutes. The views are spectacular as well.
