Trisha Yearwood’s ‘Southern Kitchen’ Gets the Green Light for Renewal

This year, Trisha Yearwood has managed to add another job title to her resume: Cooking show host. The country music star showed off her kitchen skills on the Food Network this spring in a six-episode series called ‘Trisha Yearwood’s Southern Kitchen.’ The first season of the show was just a test run, but as it turns out, cooking fans love the ‘She’s in Love With the Boy’ hitmaker just as much as country music fans — the show has been renewed for a second season.
Yearwood will start filming 13 episodes for the show’s second season this summer. “Our viewers loved seeing a different side of Trisha,” Food Network General Manager and Senior Vice President Bob Tuschman said (According to Country Music Is Love). “Her impressive cooking skills and family recipes, coupled with her natural Southern charm, really resonated with our audience.”
The first season of Yearwood’s ‘Southern Kitchen’ focused heavily on cooking family recipes, like her father’s Brunswick Stew, and a meatless, dairy-free ‘chickless pot pie’ for her mother. Yearwood’s mother passed away in October after a struggle with cancer, but at the end of her battle was on a vegan diet.
“It was such a great experience, and the positive response from viewers was overwhelming and truly gratifying,” Yearwood said of keeping the show going. “I’ve always believed that food brings people together. I can’t wait to share more family memories and recipes with Food Network fans.”
At one time, Yearwood said that if the show was renewed, she would focus on remaking southern dishes into healthier cuisine. Tune into the Food Network this fall to see the country music star’s approach to cooking on the show.
