My wife and I love to watch movies. We don't get to see as many as we would like to. Fortunately we subscribe to Netflix so we can watch movies at home. I have picked my 5 favorite movie rentals of the year.

5.  42

This is the real-life story of American sports hero Jackie Robinson, the first black player in Major League Baseball. It's very well done, although it's tough to watch a few scenes. It really is unbelievable how some people were treated in America just 60 years ago.

4. Zero Dark Thirty

The hunt for Osama Bin Laden is an incredible story.  I was on the edge of my seat the entire movie. Jessica Chastain gave an amazing performance as a C.I.A. Operative that convinced the U.S. Military to act on her hunch on the whereabouts of America's number one enemy. What Seal Team Six was able to accomplish was truly amazing.

3. Argo

Argo was the biggest surprise of the year for me. I had no idea what it was about going in, but loved it. The basic premise of the movie was to rescue six Americans during the Iran Hostage Crisis by posing as a Canadian movie crew. This movie probably should have been higher on my list.

2. Star Trek Into Darkness

This is the twelfth installment in the Star Trek film franchise, and the sequel to 2009's Star Trek. I love the cast they have assembled for these past few movies. You will never replace the original Captain Kirk and Spock, but they did a pretty darn good job. I think it is safe to say, you don't have to be a Trekkie to enjoy this movie. The special effects really are unbelievable.

1. The Heat

This is by far the funniest and best movie I saw in 2013 and is one of the few that I watched more than one time. It should win a bunch of awards, but it won't. Comedies rarely do.  Melissa McCarthy was brilliant. She might be the most talented comedic actress in the business today! I would highly eccomend this movie, but beware there is a ton of foul language in it.
