So the names have changed and the backdrop looks a little different, but this movie goer walked away from Super 8 feeling like the kid I was when I sat with my Coca-Cola and popcorn back in 1976.Don't get all caught up in the super secret military plot verses a struggling baseball team; this Super 8 feels like Bad News Bears, no questions asked. It's not so much the story as it the characters and how they interact.

Super 8 has made more than 70,000,000 and remains at the top of the weekend box office charts, but that has no bearing on whether or not I would see it again. The actors do a fantastic job presenting their characters and making us feel the connection. They bond in a time of crisis as the Buttermaker kids did in Bad News Bears.

Sure there is bickering and name calling and taunting, but it felt real then and it feels real today. A look at kids how they are in reality and not what we think they are. In Bad News Bears as with Super 8 the kids are sarcastic, talk back and struggle to be more grown up than they are. It's real life, with the exception of the actual plot in Super 8, or is it?

The characters can easily be compared in both movies. In Super 8 Cary closely matches with Bad News Bears character Tanner. Amanda, the female pitcher in Bad News Bears and yes Tatum O'Neil can be saddled side-by-side with Super 8's Alice. Charles with Engelberg and Louis with Buttermaker. And to top it off, both movies take us back to the late 70's.

All in all, I give Super 8 5 popcorn buckets out of 5. If you wanna enjoy a great flick for the whole family and be transported back to a time when you too were a kid, this is definitely a must see movie.
