If you are wondering why your residential street in Greeley has not been plowed, then you are among many. I may have your answer but it may not be the one you're looking for.

I had left a message on the City of Greeley Facebook page asking if snow plows were ever going to come out and plow our streets and I was informed that all requests had to go through the City of Greeley Public Works Streets Division. I was a bit stumped as I have never before had to put in a request to have my street plowed, ever.

There are levels of priority, which I totally understand, for plowing roads in town. However, plows were out in my neighborhood Christmas night and haven't seen one since; even with more snow. Even some of the main arteries (Eastbound 20th Street for example) have yet to be fully cleared.

If you're curious, below is a listing of the priority levels for plowing city streets in Greeley:

  • Priority 1: Arterials considered to be the minimum network which must be kept open to provide a transportation system connecting hospitals, police and fire stations
  • Priority 2: Remaining arterials and selected collectors, bus routes, and areas around schools
  • Priority 3: Remaining collectors covering major traffic volume streets and selected hot spots such as intersections, hills, and known routes for individuals with disabilities
  • Priority 4: All remaining streets, such as residential and local streets. These streets will not receive regular winter maintenance and will only be plowed if traffic movement is blocked and the higher priority streets are clear

In instances where we are unable to maintain all streets, priority 3 will be dropped first followed by priority 2. Priority 1 streets will be kept open at all times - City of Greeley Public Works Street Division

There are many I see around town struggling to get off their streets and if plows were out Christmas night plowing residential neighborhoods, why would they not be out since with the additional snowfall? I don't know, maybe it's just me, but it just seems that plows should be hitting residential neighborhoods without having to put in a request to clear the streets.

If you would like to have your street plowed please call the Public Works Street Division at 350-9336, leave your request, and they will get to it as soon as they can.
