Self Inflicted Gun Shot Kills Man NOT Sheriff’s Deputy
The death of a man was not by a deputy. It was self inflicted.
Media reports that a Larimer County deputy shot and killed a man in Glacier View were inaccurate. The Larimer County Coroner has determined the cause of death of Livermore resident James D. Smith III to be suicide by a self-inflicted gunshot to the head. Mr. Smith fired a single shot into his head, which was determined to be the only gunshot wound to the body. A deputy, whose name was not released, was placed on administrative leave as is normal protocol for an officer-involved shooting pending the conclusion of an internal review. A female rescued by deputies and was unharmed. No deputies were injured during the incident.
