A popular corporate coffee giant is getting a lot of attention for their pumpkin spice latte. But what about your other favorite drinks and foods?

The big thing today that everyone is talking about is that there isn't actually any pumpkin in the pumpkin spice latte; fake, real or otherwise. And some are now trying to dissect all of the ingredients including caramel coloring that can be considered a carcinogen and possible pesticide residue from using non-organic coffee beans. This writer is laughing, not because I don't think these ingredients could be seriously bad for you, rather that these ingredients or other like ingredients that are potentially harmful are in just about everything that you don't grow or make yourself.

THE STUFF YOU EAT AND DRINK — INGREDIENTS THAT ARE

POTENTIALLY HARMFUL:

  • A popular bread store serves a delicious broccoli cheese soup that has in its ingredients thiamine mononitrate an ingredient that claims to be likely safe, is hard for the body to pass and could cause liver problems and rare allergic reactions have occurred
  • A rib looking sandwich has monosodium glutamate which is frequently used in laboratories to create obese animals for testing. And high fructose corn syrup with a little polysorbate80, a suspected carcinogen.
  • A favorite pepperoni pizza contains ferrous sulfate that can be used to dye limestone, concrete and sandstone. Possible side effects include diarrhea, nausea and stomach cramping
  • A number one selling wing sauce at a popular wing place has calcium disodium EDTA in it, this can cause dangerously low blood pressure, kidney failure and seizures. Not to mention it also has caramel coloring and high fructose corn syrup.

We could keep going, but I think the point has been made. You, of course, are free to eat and drink what you want, but before jumping on a bandwagon and signing petitions against any one product available for consumption, get all the facts.
