Friday, April 3 is a day I won't soon forget. The students at Poudre Community Academy in Fort Collins pulled out the red carpet treatment and raised $700 for Honor Flight Northern Colorado.

It was in early March that I received an email from Connie Hubble who is a teacher at Poudre Community Academy in Fort Collins. She is an avid listener of K99 and heard me talking about my upcoming Endurance Ride in June to once again benefit Honor Flight Northern Colorado. Her students had mentioned during a history class that they wanted to honor or local veterans somehow so Connie suggested they do a fundraiser to sponsor some miles for my ride.

Their fundraiser lasted only two weeks, but in those 14 days, the 79 students at the school raised enough money to sponsor 700 miles. One student in particular, Senior James Brake, took it upon himself to go door to door in his neighborhood to raise money. When he ran out of doors to knock on within walking distance, his Mother drove him to other neighborhoods to knock on those doors. James raised right at $300!

I wanted to go personally thank each one of these young adults for what they had done so on Friday, April 3, I was invited up to the school for a BBQ and check presentation. Upon arrival, all the students were formed in two lines, many of them holding signs they had made to show their support for our veterans. They cheered and clapped so loud it drowned out the sounds of my Harley-Davidson and it was more than clear these students were true Patriots!

If you haven't sponsored miles yet for my upcoming Honor Flight Northern Colorado Endurance Ride, and this doesn't inspire you to do so, I don't know what will. I also feel the need to clear the air and remind everyone that I am not raising this money so I can give a big check to Honor Flight Northern Colorado and be the hero, I am simply a vessel for you to honor our veterans by donating and sponsoring some miles. Your checks aren't written to me, this has nothing to do with me.

This is about you...we are in this together. You are the true heroes by sponsoring miles, not me. My good friends here at the radio station, Brian and Todd, just raised over $130,000 in 28 hours to help kids in Northern Colorado which is just amazing and well worth every dime, but I wold like to think our veterans are worth half of that and I can't reach that $50,000 goal without your help. I have been trying to reach my goal for 3 months now and not even half way there.

Our veterans deserve your attention and financial help as well. It takes a $1000 to send a veteran to Washington D.C via our Honor Flight hub to see the memorials built to honor them. Sharing a picture on Facebook to say "thanks" just doesn't cut it in the long run, your donations to help pay for these flights do.

If you'd like to sponsor some miles, right now, just follow these easy and simple steps:

  1. Send me an email. My email is charley@k99.com or just click the link
  2. Provide your name and town you live in
  3. Let me know how many miles you want to sponsor ($1 per mile)
  4. If you are sponsoring miles on behalf of a veteran in your life, provide a few details about them like what branch they served in, rank and where they served.
  5. Once I receive your email, I will provide easy instructions on how to pay for your miles sometime between now and the end of June so you are not rushed.

Please remember, Honor Flight Northern Colorado is a 501c3 charity so your donations are tax deductible. One person cant do this alone but together, we are truly one!
