55-year-old John Ferris has been identified as the man killed. The crash was one of three that happened in less than a two-hour span Thursday evening, including another that involved a pedestrian. An ice storm Wednesday led to five fatal crashes in Northern Colorado.


Around 6 last night, a pedestrian walking in the Campus West neighborhood may have slipped and fallen in front of a passing motorist. The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene. Here are the details:

Fort Collins Police Services was notified of an automobile versus pedestrian collision on South Taft Hill Road near the intersection of Clearview Avenue around 6 last night.

A  minivan driven by 38-year-old Kevin Darst, 38 was traveling south on S. Taft Hill Road in the right through lane approaching Clearview Avenue. The pedestrian was walking southbound on the west sidewalk and entered the roadway. The male may have slipped or fallen into the path of the southbound vehicle before being struck.

The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. His identity will be released by the Larimer County Coroner’s Office.

The intersection of S. Taft Hill Road and Clearview Avenue was closed for approximately 4 hours while investigators processed the scene. The investigation is continuing.
