High Park Fire Now Over 43,000 Acres – Last Update 8:02 a.m. [VIDEO]

Larimer County Sheriff Justin Smith says Human remains have been found in the burned home of a person reported missing after the start of the massive High Park Fire west of Fort Collins. The remains are believed to be those of 62-year-old Linda Steadman. The High Park Fire is currently at 43,433 acres with some containment.

I often wonder when there is a huge tragedy like a wildfire that destroys homes and peoples lives, why we worry so much about what caused it while there is other work to be done. Human nature, I guess is the answer. We look so quickly to blame someone, to make someone a villain. With the High Park Fire though, the villain was mother nature. Officials say lightning started the now 41,000 acre fire. But the fire didn’t get going until Saturday, and we hadn’t had lightning since Wednesday. How does that work?

While we brace for another night of uncertainty involving the High Park Fire, Facebook is littered with posts about people who can see actual flames from points all over Fort Collins. But all we can do is idly sit by while brave fire crews work tirelessly to try and bring the worst wildfire in Northern Colorado’s memory to a halt.

The video below nearly brought tears to my eyes. It’s from earlier tonight near Horsetooth Reservoir, where people have gathered to watch as the destructive flames inch nearer and nearer to more homes.

High Park Fire Has Burned 41,140 Acres as of Monday Evening, Evacuations Remain in Place

The High Park Fire burning 15 miles west of Fort Collins has now burned an estimated 41,140 acres and it continues to grow. On Monday, firefighters were able to anchor the SW corner of the fire, which will help start to establish fire line. Air support helped firefighters make ground on south and northeast corner of fire. The Colorado fire remains at 0% contained Monday night. Weather Tuesday is expected to be warmer and drier with winds out of the southwest and gusts up to about 18 mph.

City of Greeley Recreation Monitoring Greeley Air Quality Closely as High Park Fire Smoke Travels

As the smoke from the High Park Fire continues to travel, the City of Greeley is closely monitoring it’s air quality, especially for citizens and kids participating in outdoor recreation activities. Poor air quality could cause breathing difficulties in Greeley and Weld County, especially for people susceptible to respiratory conditions.

Fort Collins Thrift Store, Other Organizations Offer Clothing and Household Items to Those Affected by the High Park Fire

So many kind folks are reaching out to help our neighbors. Second Chance Thrift and Second Chance Veterans Charity are opening their doors to those that have been affected by the High Park Fire. They have an abundance of clothing and household items that they are willing to donate to those displaced by the fire.

If you cam help, any donations of clothing or household items will be greatly appreciated to help in this cause. Other local organizations are also collecting items and are here to help.
