NFL Star Junior Seau Found Dead

Former NFL linebacker Junior Seau was found dead today at his Southern California home.

Police received a 911 call around 9:30 this morning reporting a possible suicide.

Junior Seau was 43 years old and reports are now indicating that it was not his housekeeper who found him as reported this morning but rather his girlfriend who found him with a fatal wound to the chest from a shotgun blast.

Officers found Junior Seau in a bedroom and reports indicate that a handgun was also found by his side.

If  in fact Junior Seau committed suicide by shooting himself in the chest speculation is running around that he chose that method so that his brain could be examined for symptoms of CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy) which is a trauma-induced disease common to NFL players and others who have received repeated blows to the head.  Sources are citing the same thing as the way former Chicago Bears great Dave Duerson ended his life.

Junior Seau is the eighth member of the Chargers 1994 Super Bowl team to pass away.
