When I was a kid I wanted to be cop. My favorite TV shows were cop shows and I always thought the coolest people in town when I was growing up were police officers. I am a grown man now and I still feel the same way. I have the utmost respect and gratitude to our men and women in blue.

Yesterday another officer, Corporal Nate Carrigan, was senselessly gunned down right here in Bailey, Colorado. The lives of another family of an officer were shattered on what should have just been another day at the office. In the line of police work, there is no normal day at the office. They have to be prepared for the unexpected at any time and protect us while putting themselves at risk. I could not do that job. I am so thankful for the men and women who do.

I am sick and tired of reading about protests and the bashing of police officers. Yes, there are some bad cops, but the vast majority are absolute heroes. You can take any walk of life from bankers to lawyers to priests and you will find a handful of bad apples. I am thankful each day that I awake that there are people out there to protect me and my family. They don't even know me but are willing to risk their lives to protect me. I want to take a moment to say thank you to all of the men and women who proudly wear that badge each day and do the job they were called to do. My name is Brian Gary and I say police lives matter.
