Multiple Dead in Orlando Workplace Shooting [UPDATED]

UPDATE 12 P.M. ET: The alleged shooter was a “disgruntled employee” who was fired from the company, Fiamma, in April, according to Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings. After killing four former co-workers, three men and one woman, the 45-year-old gunman turned the gun on himself. A fifth victim died later at the hospital.

The suspect was also allegedly involved in a 2014 incident in which he assaulted a fellow employee, though he was not charged in that case.

Florida Governor Rick Scott released a statement:

Authorities have announced that five people have died in suburban Orlando, the result of a gunman opening fire inside a local business. The shooter is among the dead.

Public details are scarce at this point, and the FBI has arrived on the scene to investigate. Officials have not indicated that this is a terror incident, though it comes on the heels of events in London and Manchester, England. What happens seems to have been work-related.

The incident appears to be over now. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department has called the scene “contained.”

No names, of either the victims or the perpetrator, have been released at this point.

This tragedy comes nearly a year since a shooter killed 49 people at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando on June 12, 2016.
