Keith Urban Gets Inducted Into Grand Ole Opry Family
Keith Urban is officially the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry family. Urban’s induction happened over the weekend (Saturday, April 21) in an emotional ceremony that included special performances by Trace Adkins, Josh Turner, and a surprise video congrats from Brad Paisley, who was unable to make it (in person) to Urban’s special evening.
Grand Ole Opry General Manager Pete Fisher handed the coveted trophy off to Adkins, who then presented it to Urban while speaking those life changing words: “You are now a member of the Grand Ole Opry.”
Urban beamed from inside the famous circle on the stage as he accepted the prize. “Thank you very much … Yee haw!” he told the crowd. “That is awesome!”
Humbled as ever, the ‘For You’ hitmaker said his many thanks to those who made the induction possible, including Fisher, his mom and dad, his wife and daughters, his amazing team of supporters, country radio, and of course, his loving and loyal fans who have helped make him the superstar he is today.
“It’s a long way from Caboolture [Queensland, Australia] to the stage here at the Grand Ole Opry … and to stand in this circle is the most phenomenal thing,” Urban continued. “This is a responsibility that I take deep to the heart of me. I tell the Opry why this touches me is for two things: one is that it says you know where my heart is, and [two] it once and for all shows the global popularity and reach of country music. I’m the first, of I’m sure many, non-Northern American born inductees into the hall because it is truly a global thing. As Tom T. Hall said, it’s a state of mind. I honor the history of country music, but I absolutely fully dedicate myself to the future of country music as well.”
Fans who were unable to attend the Opry Saturday night can still catch the hour-long special — ‘Noteworthy at the Opry’ — currently airing on GAC. Click here for times and listings when the show will air.
