I am not a Democrat, not a Republican or Independent. I am a free thinking, non-affiliated, march to my own beat American and proud of it. I love this country and the men and women who have and still do, fight to defend it. I am honored by their commitment and sacrifice for me. I know that red, white and blue banner represents that commitment to American freedom and my chest fills with pride and respect whenever I see the flag and hear the our national anthem being sung.

It was on this date in 1931 that 'The Star-Spangled Banner' became our official national anthem. One of my greatest memories of my broadcast career was the day after the 9/11 attack on our country. I was standing in a parking at King Soopers in Greeley raising money for the Red Cross when we started playing the national anthem on the radio. I watched as people stopped in the parking lot on their way to their cars and put their hands on their hearts and sang along. I have never felt anything like that before. To the athletes and others who choose to take a knee when the anthem is played, I ask you to please get off your darn knee and stand up tall and proud with your hand on your heart. We are the people and this is our song. God Bless America.
