When you walk out of the door in the morning to take on the world are you checking your humanity, humility and are you humble? I think that most people mean well and genuinely try each day to be a good human, but others may need a lesson.

Let's start with the basics, I know that you have heard of these things, but do you really know what they mean?  Don't worry if not, there are areas of each that we can all forget.

THE ART OF HUMANITY, HUMILITY AND BEING HUMBLE

This is important to me on a multitude of levels. And as much as I try to preach the gospel of the 'three H's' please know that I myself forget how to be a human from time to time.

It's no mystery that every human being has a story. Some are willing to share their stories and others live with and deal with their stories everyday.

There are some people that we know or will meet that will try and convince us that a story is merely something that others have gone through and are now only stories that they use as excuses. Life stories can be used as excuses and those who sit back on a throne of pity do need to be reminded that their story doesn't dictate their life going forward. But, with that said, there are enough stories in this world where we could each take note and offer more grace and compassion. Two things that for the most part, cost us nothing to give.

Far too often in this life we have a tendency to work towards our own agendas without pause for those around us. So someone was short with you, rude or just stupid and you snapped or decided to be all of the same. There is no reason why this initial behavior should be acceptable and no one expects you to take it lying down, but could you pause for a moment, reflect on yourself and see if you presented an attitude first or look at them and see if they're just that kind of person or if there may be something going on?

Now as a human being we don't have time to dive into the 'what if's' of those around us and yes everyone should be decent to each other, but I have found that more often than not there is something on their mind or going on in their lives and that is why they were rude to me initially.

What is the background story... Did she just find out her husband is cheating on her? Did he just discover his mom is dying? Did this woman just get an eviction notice? You don't know what is going on behind the curtain of their lives; you know you and you can control how you approach each situation.

Why do you have to be the bigger, better man or woman? Because if you don't, who will? And if we all adopt this train of thought and there are no more free smiles and doors held open by a stranger, regardless of what is going on in their lives, what will we have left to pass on to our children's children.... I'll tell you, anger, hate and entitlement.

Be kind to a stranger today... be kind to your brother or sister... just be kind... someday, although you don't believe so today, you may need the kindness of another.

Pay kindness forward today before it becomes extinct.
