Well I knew the holidays would be a challenge for my new body and new found health and it was. I would say I failed...and that is okay. I planned on it. I decided that since I had been so good for the last 6 to 7 months that I would let myself eat whatever I wanted over the holidays and I did. I enjoyed the food but felt like dirt. I am sure I gained several pounds but will stay away from the scale until next week.

I was curious to see what my blood sugars would do since I have been off of insulin and was going to be taking in a lot more carbs and sugar than I had in a long time. I am happy to say that as long as I stayed active and would go for walks that my blood sugars stayed right on track in spite of what I was putting in my body. That was a huge success. I am thrilled that my diabetes has stayed totally in check even with the cookies and bars.

One thing that I noticed right away was how empty those sugary treats made me feel. I was not full at all but wanted more. Sugar is a drug and it is hard to walk away from. I hadn't had it in a long time and I could feel how easy it would be to fall back into that routine of eating crap and sitting on the couch. It felt very natural and that was scary. I never want to fall back into those habits and this holiday break was a good reminder that I will be battling this for the rest of my life. You never are done. You just try to win each day. Food is an addiction and I will always have to battle it. I messaged my trainer from Benchmark Medical Group on New Year's Eve and told him to be ready for me several days a week to get myself feeling like I did before all the cookies. I can't believe how much of a hangover effect food can have on you. I have felt sluggish and less energetic ever since the first frosted snowman was eaten.

The holidays were great and I gorged myself but I am ready to get back to the new normal. I like it here and know I will continue to win. I may lose a round or two but will not lose this fight. See you tomorrow Benchmark Medical Group.
