A Steamboat Springs hotel guest who fired arrows into a bed mattress before threatening to kill police was arrested after a four-hour standoff.

Officers were called to the Ptarmigan Inn at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday on complaints that an extremely intoxicated and mentally unstable man was causing a disturbance. Police say the man, whose name has not been released, threatened to kill them.

The man was armed with a hunting bow and was shooting arrows into the mattress and a pizza box stuffed with shredded newspapers.
